NLP for Sales and Profits

Have you heard that NLP is an innovative tool for self-help which enhances the quality of your daily life? Sure you have. That and so much more. Are you thinking “what’s more self-help than helping me make more money?” This article is an attempt to answer such curious people.

The world is brimming with entrepreneurs now a days. Everybody is starting a new restaurant, textile shop, IT firm etc. So how NLP helps such people to improve their business? Let us explore the applications of a few NLP concepts in this light. There is a technique we teach called “Perceptual Positioning”. In simple terms it enables you to really get into another person’s shoe and think from their viewpoint so that you get a comprehensive picture of the situation from different angles. It might seem like common sense but the results we have seen in our seminars during the live demonstrations are life changing experiences for our participants.

I was watching a video of Jeff Walker being interviewed by Tony Robbins, an NLP expert. Jeff Walker is the creator of the Product Launch Formula which has enabled him to make a million dollar in a day. When Jeff was explaining his strategy, I could not help but notice the myriad of NLP concepts at work – Perceptual Positioning being the most profound. Visit his site http://jeffwalker.com/  for valuable tips to boost your business.

Jeff’s strategy was to develop a relationship with the customers and involve them in the product / service development process by getting their feedback during the initial stages. His focus was to know what the clients want and deliver exactly that. Value addition to the clients’ lives was his primary target. I am sure many of us still say “I thought profits are the primary target of any business.” Well, it still may be but profits are no more made by focusing only on making profits directly.

When you shift your thinking from “How to make more money?” to “How to serve the clients in a better way so that I can add more value to their lives than before?” you will start getting new ideas and approaches to improve your business. In the old mindset when you see a dip in your sales you might announce a discount, give early bird offers, give free seminars to increase product awareness etc. These might give short term returns but eventually you will find yourself struggling to sustain the momentum. An entrepreneur with the new mindset thinks “Sales have gone down because my clients do not feel I add enough value to them anymore. Let me find out what exactly they want and include it in my product / service.” These people instead of giving discounts and offers work on matching their deliverables with the market’s expectations. They can even afford to increase the price for the revised product / service and still get more customers as they are adding more value.

I want to explain more about what I am saying here but I will stop here to give you some time to reflect on how this approach can change your business decisions. I will come back with a specific example of this application soon to demonstrate this.

Are you clear about clarity ?

With a thousand new self help philosophies, personality development trainers, efficiency coaches etc. popping up every month, almost everyone is aware of the need to have CLARITY. You keep hearing you should have clarity about your priorities, your goals in life, your career ambitions etc. The problem is that now there are so many groups talking about different types of clarity that it has led to confusion again but on a different level.

So I am trying to propagate yet another kind of clarity which I hope clears the fog a little.  To those of you who have clarity about your goals in life, I ask, was there ever a goal which you attained but it still did not mean what you thought it would? How many of us have heard this statement “I have everything but I still feel empty. I am still not satisfied.”  I would like to draw attention to the fact that the achievement has become insignificant in light of want of specific emotions and feelings.

If you think about it every thing you do or want to do is to experience a specific set of feelings and emotions. Most people want to buy a car, big house etc. because they believe those things will make them FEEL happy and experience SATISFACTION etc. However after buying the car, if the spouse constantly complains about the car for some reason then the car becomes meaningless. So it is not the car but the feelings and experience that the person is after.

This is why people should have CLARITY about what FEELINGS and EMOTIONS they want to experience and what it means to them.

Many people are not able to experience their choice of emotions and feelings yet they never spend a minute to get clarity about them. You should start with “What are the top 5 feelings / emotions I want to experience consistently?” The most common ones are happy, proud, confident, satisfied,  a sense of purpose in life, non-stop personal growth, a sense of contributing to the world, spiritually connected etc. Take some quality time and analyze your dream list. Sometimes some emotions are dependent on others, so ensure that you identify the root level emotions you would want.
For example, you might write “Happiness” at the top of your list but for you maybe you are super happy when you are fully confident and spiritually connected. It means confidence and spiritually connected are your root level emotions which will automatically keep you happy. You don’t have to do anything specific explicitly to make you feel happy. Once you have your list, you will notice the true power of clarity and how it will shift your focus to the really important things in your daily life.

I will follow this article with another one on the power of focus to give you the full picture.

Weight Loss [2] Taking Action

Weight Loss Series 2:  Taking Action

We have established that the problem of weight loss is more often a matter of the mind in our 1st article of this series. On the other hand, it is quite obvious that concrete actions are required to lose weight and mere improvements in your thought structure are not enough..
Do you know how much you eat?

Your weight is dependent to a major degree on what you eat and how much you eat. It is surprisingly important to measure your present state. Be conscious of what you eat. The best thing would be to keep a diary where you record everything you eat every day. You do not have to reduce what you eat. Don’t even try to reduce your food intake. You do not need to stop junk foods and switch over to healthier foods. This measuring phase is just so that you are aware of your food patterns. It will help give you leverage in future when we change our thought patterns about food.

What do you want? Make a decision . . .
A very powerful question if enough thought is given before answering. Before you start answering, let me make one thing clear.
You don’t just want to “Lose weight”.
Losing weight is only a means to something more meaningful. Focus on that. There must have been some incidents that prompted you to want to lose weight. Maybe your loved ones called you fat, you are not able to play outdoor games like you used to, you feel lazy sluggish always, you are not able to wear stylish clothes and look good and so many more reasons. So you see you don’t just want to lose weight; you want to lose weight so that you can start playing again, be proud of your looks, wear any kind of clothes you want, be active etc.
I am sure you would have “wanted” to a lot of things in your life. Take a moment to recall how many of those you actually ended up doing. Not many right? That is the difference between merely wishing and making a decision. If you just say “I want to lose weight” it will only be a wish which will come true only if a genie grants you the wish.  However when you add enough reasons and make the goal important enough it will no more be a wish.
“You need to DECIDE to be the person you deserve to be.”
Do you want to have a healthy and fit body so that you are always energetic? Do you want to have a body you are proud of? Do you want to be able to do anything you want? Nobody is stopping you but yourself.
Decide to give yourself what you deserve!
